Dark Eldar Mandrake Unit

My completed Mandrakes! These were quite a lot of fun to paint. They're so very different from what I normally paint, IE Space Marines, and color wise they're quite easy to do. Overall I'm quite happy with the turnout. Some of the OSL is a little thick, but you can't win them all... You'll notice that one of them is without a weapon. They were a damaged product brought back to the store by someone who didn't want them, dunno what the GW return policy is but friendly manager let me have them for free so who was I to pass that up...

The biggest thing I've taken away from this is how good Andrea Paints are. I used the Red Paint Set to do the robes and I was impressed from the beginning. The paint gives great coverage, doesn't resist watering down, and is designed to be used with an airbrush or painted by hand. All-round top class stuff and I'll be slowly replacing a lot of my paints with them...

Someone told me I've been slacking off in explaining how I do things... You're right. I have. I'll try and remember for my next miniature ^_^

Oh and I got to be in the Tuesday Top Ten. Yay me! The slightly sad thing is that this was the best thing to happen to me so far this year... It's been a tough 27 days... Here's hoping it gets better ^_^

  1. your mandrakes look great. Never heard of Andrea Paints myself, but I am doing the slow switchover to the p3 line (by privateer) and noticing that the GW colors are a little dull comparatively.

Hope the year keeps getting better!

  2. Thanks Ricalope. Yeah, I hadn't heard of them either, but one day I was looking over the CMON shop and they had a red set consisting of a base, three highlights and two recess colors. As I paint red a lot I gave them a go and am very glad that I did.

I still use a lot of P3 paint as well. They make colors which GW doesn't and the ones that are the same are better.

Thanks again for taking the time ^_^

  3. Paintwise I am, and will always be, a Testors enamel man. They just do what I expect them to. Comes from growing up painting models and toy soldiers.

The mandrakes look awesome though. SCore on the price.

  5. Hey great stuff Vent :) They turned out quite nice. Only critisism I'll have to make is that the colour of the bases is too similar with their skin tone. This makes them look a bit weird but it's not big a deal.

Anyway, hope the rest of the year goes better for you :)
