Necromunda - House Orlock (Completed)

NECROMUNDA!
House Orlock
Holy crap... I finished a group of miniatures... The end times are upon us and the world will end a wave of rioting tabletop geeks! OK, maybe it's not that momentous, but for me it's pretty damn close. I gotta say though, these were fun to paint. I've not been painting long enough to have painted these when they first came out, but GW could learn A LOT about their company by looking back at things / minis like these and understanding the reason we loved them was because of the minis...

Unique sculpts with great attention to detail. Yes, they were/are static, but that's OK. They have real character and it really shows when they're painted! Right, enough of the ranting, more miniatures!

Gang Leader
The leader is meant to look unique on the field. I like to think I've done that with this guy. The elevated base also helps ^_^

Heavies
The Heavies; no gang looks complete without two huge guys carrying massive guns. I'd love to find some more, but I doubt they're out there anywhere... Or if they are I imagine they're expensive as hell!

Gangers
Four distinct sculpts and four awesome miniatures. The far left one is my test miniature and you can see the differences in the end results. My favourite of the lot is the second from the left, such a badass pose! ^_^

Juves

Ahh, the Juve, fresh meat for the grinder. Endless ways to die in the hive... And these poor bastards have no eyes! Yup, if you look closely you'll see I forgot to give them eyes... Oh well, mutants they are! ^_^

So much fun!

Now to name them and kill them off one by one in horrific games where I get schooled! Roar! ^_^

Holy crap I'm not dead!

More work on Orlocks. I'll take some real photos when I finish, which is only TWO miniatures away! TWO!

OK, more Orlock's. Took me a little longer than an hour this time, but not much... I'm having fun not using any metals. It's quite a good exercise to do... I think everyone should give it a go every once and awhile.

There's numerous minor things that have to be finished off, like eyes and teeth and lenses, but as they're for gaming more than display I'll get around to those at a later date...

I've been playing with skin tones and things as I don't normally paint humans, or skin at all...

Necromunda - Meeeeeeeeemories... of the way we used to be...

I've always loved Necromunda, the concept the campaign feel, the growth of the gang, the bitter frustration and resentment when you lose a ganger who you just out-fitted... It really appeals to me... So when my local group suggested we return to the hive I was totally on board and went looking for the Orlocks that I purchased loooooong ago...

Here's the test miniature which I decided to speed paint. One hour, one miniature. ^_^

Stars Abound!

Looking at the plastic flight stands for X-Wing is depressing. They're see through, but they suffer from bubbles and the joins look terrible as well... So I got bored and decided to repaint mine as a starry field...

Surprisingly simple, and twenty minutes of work later they were done. I might gussy up a tutorial for it if there's interest. All credit goes to NASA and their amazing photos of the cosmos! ^_^

Not Dead Yet!

As Stormy says 'You can't outrun who you are'... I think I'll always be a painter of some sort. Part of my problem is work, part of my problem is a short attention span. ANYWAY, I've been painting X-Wing Miniatures again. This time it's the Rebel Alliance getting some love!

I used this A-Wing more to get a feel for the colours I wanted to use, I know it wasn't going to be red like my imperial stuff, but I was unsure what I wanted to do so I started slapping some paint on. Eventually I got things figured out, and I'm pretty happy. Undercoating another A-Wing, a B-Wing, and a couple of Y-Wings today and should follow a similar colour scheme to this one. I'll get to the X-Wings when I've got other things nailed down, although they have the smallest surface areas of all the ships I think...

I was trying to work out whether to use metallic or try balls up some NMM... I'm happy with my choice... ^_^

On things with wings...

So I have actually been painting... I mean, I've been painting without updating. Partly because of laziness... Partly because of the funny way Google blogs was working for awhile... Either way, stuff done... ^_^

So I've been spreading out to other things lately, and decided to start with some Imperial Stuff from X-Wing. I started with the shuttle and then decided to do some escorts...

Once this was done I decided to add more, so there could be more options to play with. That meant some TIE's... Four seemed like a good idea, and one needed to be an ace.

So that's left me with a pretty large squadron. I'm going to add a firespray in there somewhere ^_^

A lot of these were done very quickly with my airbrush, and I gotta say I would do things very differently if I did them again... Which I'm going to be... As I'm selling these ^_^

So what else have I been doing? Well... As much trouble as I have with GW some times I still have a VERY large pile of shame which needs painting... As such I decided to bust out the Whirlwind... It's obviously very WiP ^_^

You can do SO MUCH with an airbrush, but it is not hassle free; colour changes are a pain, as such it's often beneficial to do things in large batches... Of course I have trouble batch painting... but you do what you can...

Dark Elf Dragon WiP

Well it's been awhile, but I'm painting again. Since last time I've gotten a new degree, started a new job, been victim to a home invasion, been screwed over by the justice system, etc, etc...

Anyway, painting... Just a WiP shot of a Dark Elf Dragon. Hopefully I'll have more soon.

Airbrush stuff continued...

If you don't know and follow Tom Schadle, over at Tom Schadle Miniatures I highly suggest you start reading his blog and following his amazing work. He's won awards and paints professionally and all the other stuff that most of us aspire towards. Anyway, look at his stuff... ^_^

I borrowed (See 'blatantly stole') his colour scheme and technique for his Infinity terrain and used it to see if I could reproduce something that kinda looked the same... Good News! What I've produced doesn't suck!
Was disturbingly easy as well. I used exactly the same method as tom did in his post here. Worked like a dream, I'm sure things will get better with more practice...

Space Barrier.
When a regular sandbag just isn't good enough...

That marine couldn't hide behind that if his life depended on it... Wait...

And I am done! This has been so much fun, and so very easy to do... The decals were amazing and look really nice on there. Enough talk. More model!

Everything looks better with Racing Stripes!

It's true! They really do look better ^_^

Red makes things go faster...
Not much left to do really ^_^

Battlestar Day Two...

It's so very hot where I live right now... I've been spending time reading in the sun rather than in the Sauna that is my painting room... But I did the 80% of the grays. There is a distinct possibility of going to light with this, so I've kept it quite muted... I still like the look of it though ^_^

Still lacking something... ^_^

Battlestar start position

My airbrushing skills are still lacking, so I purchased this for practice... If you're going to paint something, paint something cool... And the Battlestar Galactica is Daaaaaaaamn cool... I'm thinking for this one I'm going for height of its power Galactica rather than battle damaged Galactica or Museum prep Galactica...

The kit is from Moebius Models. It is really nicely detailed... and the Pegasus just came out, same scale, so I'll have to get that one soon enough as well ^_^

ZOMBIE HORDE SIGHTED!

And suddenly ZOMBIES!

So... Many... Zombies... Longest continual painting project of my life... and some of them are pretty rough... but overall I'm happy with the outcome. Now it's time to take a shotgun to them... Or a chainsaw... ^_^

Tuesday, October 15, 2013

Oh come on...

Well despite me actually starting my zombies in Zombicide (See below); fate has a wicked sense of humor... When I got home today this was waiting for me...

I wonder what's inside...
Hmmm a very large box... Well it couldn't be anything to bad... Right?! RIGHT?!
This doesn't look that bad...
Oh phew, it's just some dogs... But wait... Maybe WE NEED TO GO DEEPER! (Zombiception?I'm so trademarking that word...)
Only then did the full level of my madness sink in...
So anyway... The long and the short of it is that I have TONNES of zombies to paint... I think it's time to enlist the help of a peon or two...

MORE ZOMBIES!

The horde grows and continues! Once you're bitten you're screwed!

In an effort to keep going with the zombie horde I'm gonna keep updating the horde as I paint them. Older ones will go to the back, and the newer ones will always be at the front.

I went for less blood on these ones, and I've done some pretty heavy handed highlights on things as well... I can't stop myself... I like the blue ones... At least I'm not going shoes and such...

Oh, and I'm trying out Flickr's "upload in super huge resolution", so if you want to see them in super detail (It's not pretty) go for it here.

So many Zombies!

So Anyway...

It turns out that trying to cram three years of university work into one year leaves very little time for other pursuits. While I have tried to paint, I have failed more than succeeded...

That being said, I have been painting some things... Speed Painting Gooooooo!

OK, so I'm the worst speed painter in the world. I'll often take an hour (or longer) on an SM helmet to be happy with it. In an effort to help me paint quicker I'm going slap happy with my Zombicide zombies. It took me two hours to get these seven done. Anyone who knows me knows that this is a monumental achievement of splediferous speed for me...

Huge time savers were the army painter sprays and dips. I only used three colours, but I'm about to do my next batch which will have more colours...For gaming pieces (Which they are), they're fine, but I really had to stop myself from doing eyes, and picking out all the little bits...

I'll still take my time with the survivors, and zombivors, but these are OK... ^_^

This is pretty much what I have nightmares about...

Vallejo Metallic Liquid.

Vallejo Metallic Liquid.

Find these. Find these and buy them. They are beyond stunning. They are mind-blowingly good... I hope to have a few photos up tomorrow, but these paints make me want to play Necrons so I can paint with them...

If you're in New Zealand: Slave to Painting has the full range. They cannot ship them overseas though, because of hazardous shipping stuff. But Find Them!

Seriously?
Mark the day folks. Today is the day that GW lost me as a Space Marine collector... I mean ... Look at them?!
